Management
A.E. Michael Anglin, M.Sc.
President and CEO (Interim), Director
Mr. Anglin is a mining engineer with a career of over 20 years in senior management roles at BHP Billiton. His most recent role before retiring from the company was Vice President Operations & Chief Operating Officer, Base Metals Group, in Santiago, Chile. His extensive international experience has encompassed multi-site management to technical, functional and business development. Previous to joining BHP in 1986 he held engineering roles at Texasgulf and New Jersey Zinc. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Mining and a Master of Science from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London.
George N. Paspalas, B.E. (Chem.)
Chief Operating Officer
Before joining Silver Standard in 2007, Mr. Paspalas held a broad range of executive, technical and operational positions in mining and project development. His 25-year career includes 18 years at Placer Dome Inc., in roles including General Manager of the Osborne and Granny Smith mines in Australia, Executive Vice President Africa, and Senior Vice President Projects - Technical Development, responsible for project development across all major mining regions. His regional experience includes North and South America, the Pacific Rim, Africa and Europe. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) degree with Honours from the University of New South Wales.
Joseph J. Ovsenek, P.Eng.,LLB
Senior Vice President, Corporate Development
Mr. Ovsenek joined Silver Standard as Legal Counsel in 1996. His role has included responsibility for corporate and securities compliance, technical project evaluation, negotiating financing and property transactions, and strategic development. Mr. Ovsenek holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Toronto. He is a registered professional engineer, and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of British Columbia.
W. John DeCooman Jr., M.Sc.
Vice President, Business Development
Mr. DeCooman’s experience prior to joining Silver Standard in 2009 includes over 15 years of mining project finance and advisory responsibilities at Deutsche Banc, Alex Brown and Standard Bank, as well as corporate positions in finance, business development and exploration. Mr. DeCooman holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science degree from the Colorado School of Mines.
Tony Horton
Vice President, Safety and Risk Management
Mr. Horton has over 20 years of safety management experience in mining operations, including the development and deployment of best practice safety management systems, risk management, training and audit reviews. He has been responsible for operations safety at numerous international mining projects and in the development of comprehensive organizational risk management strategies. Prior to joining Silver Standard, Mr. Horton was Senior Vice President, Corporate Health and Safety for SNC-Lavalin, and previously Group Manager - Safety at Placer Dome Inc.
W.J. (Jim) Mallory
Vice President, Sustainability
Mr. Mallory has over 30 years of mining experience in a broad range of roles for large-scale mining operations. He has extensive experience managing environmental and social programs, including communication and policy implementation, throughout North and South America. Prior to joining Silver Standard in 2009, he worked for Nova Gold Resources Inc. as General Manager, Nome Operations and Mine General Manager, Galore Creek Project. Mr. Mallory worked previously at Placer Dome Inc., where he spent over 13 years in Latin America in management positions in both operations and sustainable development.
Kenneth C. McNaughton, M.A.Sc.,P.Eng.
Vice President, Exploration
Mr. McNaughton has been Vice President, Exploration, since 1991. Before joining Silver Standard, he worked as contract engineer for Oretech Engineering and worked on exploration programs for three bulk mineable gold or copper/gold deposits in Arizona and British Columbia. From 1984 to 1989, he was employed by Corona Corporation and its affiliate Mascot Gold Mines Ltd. as a project geologist and engineer for projects in British Columbia. Mr. McNaughton holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree and a Master of Applied Science degree in geological engineering from the University of Windsor.
Kristen G. Riddell, LLB
Vice President, Corporate Secretary
Prior to joining Silver Standard, Ms. Riddell held the positions of Corporate Secretary with Skye Resources Inc. and Legal Counsel and Corporate Secretary with Pan American Silver Corp. She has served as legal counsel for other public companies, including Placer Dome Inc., and most recently Westport Innovations Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Manitoba, and is a member of the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals.
Tom S.Q. Yip, C.A.
Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Prior to joining Silver Standard in 2007, Mr. Yip held the position of Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer at Asarco, LLC. He also held finance roles of increasing responsibility at Echo Bay Mines Ltd., including Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer, before the company merged with Kinross Gold Corporation in 2003. Mr. Yip is a chartered accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration from the University of Alberta.
